FeedCamp FAQ:
How this works?
Everyday we index top news articles and blog posts on thousands of sources and break them down into smallest pieces possible or "granules", based on the popularity we rank granules and track how the rank changes over time. In this process we find new ones which worth adding to the list. An RSS feed representing the granule is available that pulls the actual content.
You have the option to drill down the list and find corresponding higher-level granules. Using this tool, you will be able to pin-point one article among thousands based on the relations that granules make with each other.
Hot granules are the ones that have not been on the list for the past 7 days or are completely new on the list.
How this would help me?
There are too many news articles that are being posted on a daily basis, it is very likely that we miss some that are important to us. Accessing a broader range of news on one page is something that is not possible with traditional news sites, granular news page helps you to quickly find articles, and do research on trends. This would help you to find out how the media shapes our knowledge-base on a daily basis.
Daily news are not so much different than a supply and demand concept in commerce, whenever you see more news supply on a particular subject there has to be a demand for that. Hot granules or the ones with a jump in their rank are a good indication of increase in demand, bloggers can take advantage of the demand for increase traffic or to constantly stay ahead of the crowd. News analysts and researchers can use this effectively as one of their BI tools.
What is your next plan?
In addition to fine tuning the process, we have a plan to shorten the time in which the list is being generated from a daily list to an hourly list and provide more granules and feeds. That would give you a powerful tool to see how the news is building up on a particular subject.
